I am Kimberley Baer, the owner of the Baer Law Office. Please call me Kim. I grew up in a small town in Iowa where you were expected to work hard for everything you had. When I was a young child, I knew I wanted a career where I could help people. It did not take too long before I realized that the law was my calling. I have been practicing law for over 35 years. I started out in one of the largest firms in the country, Skadden Arps, in their Chicago office. I considered myself very lucky to have learned from the “best of the best.” It was great training and I still keep in touch with many of the attorneys I worked with in Chicago who still refer cases to me. I moved back to Iowa when my children were young so they could grow up in Iowa with Iowa values.
After working at a few larger firms in Iowa, I decided to open the Baer Law Office. I wanted to focus on my client’s needs and create a law firm that provided excellent customer service. Most lawyers, in my opinion, do not realize we are in customer service. Being attentive and responsive to a client’s needs is just as important as getting results. We pride ourselves on having a great team and as a result the Baer Law Office has been voted Best Law Firm in the Des Moines area for the last 9 years. We have beaten out much larger 90+ lawyer law firms for this honor.

My practice is varied because I enjoy working with our clients on whatever legal problem they may have. I practice in personal injury which includes car accidents, semi-truck cases, and dog bites. I have worked on fire and death cases. I have several small and large business clients whom I work with on contract review, leases, litigation, the sale and purchase of companies, and setting up a company for people just starting out. We also have a great team of attorneys who handle family law cases. I work with the other lawyers in our office on divorces, custody battles, division of assets and other issues. Finally, we also offer estate planning including setting up a will, Revocable Trust or a Power of Attorney. While that may seem like a lot, we do not handle criminal matters or bankruptcy. If we cannot help you, we will often give you other names to try.
After practicing law for so long, it should come as no surprise that I have extensive courtroom and mediation experience. My longest jury trial was six weeks and although it was a long hard fight, we won! I believe that being prepared is the key to success and I work hard to make sure my clients understand the process and know what to expect. If you want us on your team, we are always happy to help.
When I am not practicing law, I am very active teaching other attorneys about how to handle injury cases or family law matters. I serve on several boards and also volunteer for numerous charities in the community. I am married and have two great kids. One is even a lawyer—go figure!
